Highlights of this year

Hello everybody and welcome back to my blogggg. This week I am going to be talking about two of my favourite moments this year. Now I know it says only one of my favourite things to talk about on the task sheet but I'm going to be talking about 2 so deal with it.

Speech competiton
The reason I liked this so much is because I did so well and I had to perform it in front of the whole school because I got into the top four of the year 7s. It was interesting how the order went because in front of the whole class I was a little bit nervous, then in front of the whole syndicate I was really nervous, but in front of the whole school I wasn't nervous at all. Overall I worked really hard to get what I got in the speech competition and I was very pleased with myself.

ICAS maths
In this competition I did really well and it was the best result I had ever got for ICAS exams. I got a distinction for the ICAS maths by getting 28/40 and getting in the top 11 percent of the country. I was surprised because I did not study very much but while I was doing the test I wasn't finding the questions too hard. Overall I got a really good result on the ICAS and I am very pleased.

This year I think the big day out will be at the zoo because we've gone to we usually go there or Zealandia.

So that's my post for this week. Please comment below about your highlights of this year.

Being a year 8

Sup people and welcome back to my blog. This week I'm going to be talking about what I'm feeling like about next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of the things I want to achieve next year are to win the cross country, get a science badge, try and get distinction in Australian Maths and ICAS maths, also try to get a merit and excellence badges, win the speech competition and some outside of school sporting goals.

The things that I am looking forward to next year is sitting on the chairs at assembly, year 8 camp, the end of year assembly for us and the sporting events that we compete in.

Some things that I think will be a big challenge for me is year 8 camp, winning the cross country, winning the speech competition and getting distinction for Australian maths.

So that's my blog post for this week. Please comment below about some of your challenges for next year.

Bye Bye people

Book Week

Sup everybody and welcome back to my bloooooooog. This week I am going to be talking about the book week activities I enjoyed such as the parade, Quiz and Kate De Goldi.

The first activity I am going to talk about is the parade and had lots of fun for this one because I was one of the judges. There were 3 categories for the book character day: most realistic, most creative and best group. We also split them into 4 different groups years 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and year 7-8.  But we found out that judging wasn't as easy as we thought it would be and we struggled to choose the best costumes. Some of the best costumes we chose were Richie McCaw,  a Pirate and Ana and Elsa.

The next thing I am going to be talking about is my favourite thing that happened on the day, the book quiz. This is because every quiz was worth 500 house points and there were four quizzes. I played a big part because Henry and I made the year 1 and 2 quiz and also read it out to them. The problem was Evans didn't do very well because they didn't earn any points whatsoever which I wasn't very happy about. But it was the most fun part of my day so never mind.

The last thing I am going to be talking about is the famous NZ author that came and visited our school Kate De Goldi. She was really nice and intersting and talked about the books she wrote as a kid and how she grew up to become an amazing author. My favourite book that she wrote is The ACB which is about a girl called Perry who likes to visit her grandmother and with her grandmother she writes an ABC book.

Overall book character day was really fun. Please comment below about how your book character day was.

Geronimo Stilton!

Sup everybody and welcome back to my blog!!!!!! This week I am going to be talking about a book series I used to like when I was between 7 and 8 years old. The book series is Geronimo Stilton!!!!!!

Geronimo Stilton is a very long series consisting of 62 books. However they are not that long being approximately 120 pages long. The book series has amazingly been translated into 35 different languages and was published by Edizioni Piemme from Italy. The reason I liked the books is because they were really funny and whenever there was an interesting word they would make a cool font in a different colour. They were also well wrote and intersting always leaving you with some suspense. My favourite book I read was Mighty Mount Kilimanjaro. It was about his adventure when  he walked up mount Kilimanjaro (famous mountain in Africa)

So that's my blog post this week. Please comment below about the book that you liked when you were younger.

AFL

Sup everybody and welcome back to my blog. This week I am going to be talking about AFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AFL is an Australian sport which stands for Australian Football League. Last week at 9.45am we went out onto the courts to learn AFL. The aim of this lesson was to learn how to kick an AFL. The were two main reasons it is important to learn how to kick in AFL is because-

-You kick to get the ball to your other players.
-You kick to score points.

Some tips I learnt for kicking was to drop the ball then kick it with your laces. My two favourite phrases that I liked were laces away from faces and drop punt.

Now a cool fact from AFLNZ

-The Mid Ashburton Eagles won this year's New Zealand AFL title.

So that's my blog post this week. Please comment below about what you learnt at AFLNZ.

The Gone series

Ciao everybody and welcome back to my blog. This week I am going to be talking about a book series I really like at the moment called the Gone series.

The Gone series is written by Michael Grant and there are six books Gone, Hunger, Lies, Plague, Fear and light. It is a book series about two small towns in America called Perdido beach and Coates academy and everybody 15 and over disappears. This means that the kids have to take control and try to keep the city how it should be. This doesn't work out how it was planned and bad things happen such as they get hungry, they fight between the two cities Perdido beach and Coates academy and a live land mine starts to rise. The reason I like these books is because it got wrote very well and it is a very interesting book.

So that's the end of this weeks blog post. Hopefully you go back after this post and read the book. Please comment below about your interest at the moment.

Future job

Bula folks and welcome back to my blog. This weeks post is going to be about my future job as an astronaut.

The reason I want to be an astronaut is because I really enjoy learning about space at school. Also I really want to experience what it is like to be in a spaceship and I would really want to experience zero gravity. For me to achieve this goal at college I am going to need to study engineering, mathematics, biological science and physical science. Some things that I could outside of school to accomplish this goal is to study lots about space and do some extra maths.

So that's my blog post for this week.
What's your future job going to be?

My double sleepover

Hello boys and girls and welcome back to my blog. This week I am going to be talking about my double sleepover which I had with my friend Oscar.

First things first at 3.15 he picked me up from the tennis holiday programme I was doing. Then we went and caught a train to the wellington station then his mum picked us up and we went to Oscars sisters tennis training. We didn't watch we just played a little bit of tennis together for about an hour. We then went back to his house and played technology and then had dinner which was tacos yum! After dinner we started playing a game of monopoly and I was doing pretty well in with the full green set and he had the red set. Then at nine o'clock we went to bed and chatted for a bit before we went to sleep at 9.30pm.My first day of my sleepover was fun but my second day was even better.

The start of my second day was a good one. First of all we played technology again and then we continued our game of monopoly and I absolutely dominated him putting three houses on all of my greens making him owe me 1 thousand dollars. This was to much for him to pay so I won the game yay😃!!Then after we had had breakfast Oscars freind Solomon came over and we went and played some tennis. I did pretty well in tennis winning 50 percent of my matches against Oscar and only losing to Solomon once. After tennis we walked back to Oscars house and played some more monopoly but we got bored after a while and went outside to plays some  tackle rugby. After tackle rugby Solomon went home and we set up the ping pong table. Oscar was awful at ping pong and I beat him at least twenty times and he beat me only twice. After ping pong we had some dinner and then went to bed. This time only at 8:45 pm

The third day of the sleepover was a quiet one. We got up at seven to watch the All blacks which was a very good game and we got the result we wanted by winning 47-9. We then played some more ping pong which was very fun. Then we played some badminton which at first was very hard to play but then I got the hang of it and started playing OK. But soon enough at 12.00 it was time for me to leave 😩 which was quite sad because I had had a great time with Oscar.

So that was the story of what happened at my double sleepover. It would have to go down in history as one of my greatest sleepovers. Please comment below about what you thought of my post.

Art week (weeks)

Hello boys and girls and welcome back to my awesome blog. This week I am going to be talking a bit about art week. So first things first for the last couple of weeks we have been doing heaps of  artwork.

Every class in the school took part and the theme was everything natural (not made by humans). So the class's did stuff like snow, sky, space, underground, sea, mountains and jungle. My classroom (room 8) did sky for our theme.

Our class worked really hard and we pulled together heaps of art such as a massive runway, a silhouette wall, big aeroplane with all our faces on it, birds eye view of the school, angry birds art, Origami corner and other bits of indivual art.

So your probably thinking why did we do all this art ? Well the reason is because last Thursday the 10th of September we did an art exhibition which is where all of our parents came to look at our wonderful art. It was all very successful and all of our parents were very impressed (well mine were).

Now I am going to tell about the artworks that were my favourites. For my individual art my favourite was my sail hotel silhouette and the group artwork was the X-wing that room 12 made.

Overall I think that the art week (weeks) was really fun and we should do it again next year.

Poems

Sup everybody and welcome back to my blog. This term our writing topic has been poems. So today I am going to be sharing two of my favourite poems, my sky haiku and my Limerick. But before I go on don't expect anything amazing from me because I'm not a poet or anything.

Sky Haiku

The clouds fly by
And the planes follow their path.
Then the stars take the spotlight.

Limerick

There once was a man called Sake
And he was very lucky
He had lots of gold
Which he greatly sold
But this was very unlucky.

So that's my blog post for this week. Please comment below about what your favourite poems are about.

Artist Van Gogh

Hey guys and welcome back to my blog. This week I am going to be talking about an Artist. For my Artist I chose Vincent Van Gogh. The reason I chose him was because we did some art about him in room 8 2 years ago. So here are a few facts about him.

  • Vincent Van Gogh was born on the 30th of March 1853 in Zundert, Netherlands.
  • In a period of ten years he made approximately 900 paintings.
  • Vincent shot himself in France but died 2 days later at the age of 37.
  • He was poor and was basically unknown his whole life and he only sold one painting in his whole life and was only famous after he died.
  • He did not chop of his whole ear he only chopped off a small portion of it.
  • Vincent's  brother died when he was born and also had the same name as him.
  • He was also good friends with Paul Gauguin who was a famous artist.
My favourite 2 paintings that Vincent Van Gogh did was the starry night and the night club. The reason I like starry night because I did a version of it myself and it's one of his most famous painting. My other favourite painting is the night cafe. The reason I like this one is because it is very well drawn and it would be a place that I would like to go to.

So that's it for this week guys please comment below about which artist you picked for your blog post.

Regional sportsfestival

Hello and welcome back to my blog. This week I am going to be talking about the regional sports festival. Surprisingly this week we have to talk about the sports festival twice, once before the day and once after the day. So lets get started.

Before

At the regional sports festival I am going to be playing the sport table tennis. If you know me well you might think that table tennis for me is not one of my top 3 sports. But I thought through the decision and I decided why not try and play table tennis for a change rather than my other sports I most enjoy. The way I've been practising table tennis is by setting up my net on my dining table and practising with my family (and the odd visitor). We've also been having practises at lunchtime and morning tea. The things I am most looking forward to doing are playing against other schools around the region and having coaching with Robert Chung and Richard Lee. The things I think I can do to help my team is to play well, encourage them and make it fun for all.

After

At the regional sportfest it was a very fun day and there is good news and bad news. The good news is that I had tons of fun and I won six games out of 12. The bad news is that we got 8th in the tournament out of yeah you can probably guess that one. The way I thought I helped my team was by playing some tight games, umpiring some of the games and encouraging my team. The team that won was Brooklyn intermediate which were really good and beat a boy who had a fancy serve and lots of coaching. Overall I thought organisation was really good  and we were constantly playing games. Next year I think they should do the exact same thing because like I said before it was tons of fun.

So that's my blogpost for this week I hope you enjoyed it. Please comment below about how your team went.

Hello everybody and welcome back to my blog. This week my topic is about the flag debate - in New Zealand at the moment there is a flag debate about changing the flag. Above are my favourite 4 flag options and I am going to be talking about which one I like best and about changing the flag.

My favourite flag

Out of the four flags I have chosen at the top I have narrowed it down to one flag. The flag that I have chosen as my favourite is the one at the bottom left. The reason I like it is because it has the fern which represents our sporting nature, the  4 stars which represents the southern cross which we see every night and I believe the colours represent our Māori culture. The main reason I like this flag is because it represents our country in a few different ways and has a fantastic design.

Do I want to change the flag ?

Yes I do want to change the flag. I believe it would make our country more recognisable on the world map and we wouldn't get mixed up with the Australian flag which often happens now. It might cost $37M but the government spends a huge amount of money per year on our country's services so it would actually be money well spent. Overall, changing the flag would be a huge success for our nation.

That's it for this week I hope you enjoyed my post. Please comment below and say whether you want to keep the flag or not.

Art

Art

Welcome back everybody and welcome back to my blog. This week I am going to be talking about Art because in week 8 we have an Art exhibition and our theme is the sky. The first thing I am going to talk about is the sort of art I enjoy doing.

The sort of Art I enjoy doing

I enjoy most types of f Art but the Art I most enjoy is collage. Collage is ripping lots of little pieces of paper up and sticking them onto a large piece of paper. The reason I enjoy it is because I enjoy the challenge of finding meaningful places for each little piece of paper and it can have a very good outcome. The collage we have done this year is an Aztec mask. My mask has a green and blue background and a black stripe down the middle and a red stripe down the side.

What Art skills do I need to work on

The Art skills I need to work on are sketching and drawing. The thing I need to work on is being more detailed with my drawing and sketching.  I need to progress from drawing stick figures!  This year we had to draw a sketch of Tenochtitlian. I enjoyed that project and I thought I sketched pretty well but generally, I am still learning to sketch.

Some ideas of what our class could do for our Art exhibition

My favourite idea for our 'Sky Art' project is the one on our back wall - we could have Ranginui the Maori God of the Sky or Zeus the Greek God of the sky as the main character of our art. Another idea I have is for our whole class to make a cardboard plane that can move around the classroom.  When its not moving, it could be hanging from the middle of our classroom ceiling.

So that's my blog post for this week I hope you enjoyed it. Please comment below about some of your art ideas.

2 people I would like to invite over for dinner

2 people I would like to invite over for dinner

Hello boys and girls and welcome back to my blog. This week I am going to be talking about 2 people who I would really like to have dinner with. I am going to be choosing one fictional and one real person. The first person is the son of Poseidon Percy Jackson.

Percy Jackson
Percy Jackson is a book character in the Percy Jackson series and the Hero's of Olympus series. The reason I chose Percy Jackson is because he is a demigod of Poseidon. He is one of the most powerful Demigod in both of the series. He has a lot of special powers such as controlling the water, breathing underwater, talking to sea animals and knowing where to travel when they are on a boat. He is also a very good sword fighter by using his sword riptide. His main features are sea blue eyes and black hair. So onto the point if I could invite Percy Jackson over for dinner I would ask him these three questions-

Which monster do you hate the most and why?

Why do all the Gods ignore you ?

What is your favourite food?

James Rodriguez
My next lucky contestant I would like to invite to dinner is James Rodriguez. James Rodriguez is a professional football player who plays for Colombia and Real Madrid. The way I heard of him was when he played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and scored the most goals by an individual person (6)
and got the prize for golden goal. After that he went from the football club AS Monaco to Spain's big shots Real Madrid which is one of the best clubs in the world. The questions that I would like to ask him are-

Do you enjoy being an amazing Football player?

What was the best goal you've scored for Real Madrid?

Who is your best mate?

And that is my blog post for this week I hoped you enjoyed it. Please comment below and tell me which people you would like to invite for dinner.

My Grandad

My Grandad's first time playing Monopoly with me

After I got out of the car I strolled my way to my grandparents front porch with them both there to greet me and my siblings. We were going to be staying the night at their house and since I was only 8 I had no idea what I was going to do.

As I was moping with nothing to do I came across a very creaky cupboard in my uncle's room and I decided to have a little peak inside to see if there was anything interesting to do.  Sitting right there at the very top corner was the beloved game Monopoly.

I was quite happy with my luxurious find and  I ran to grandad and asked him if we could play together. After we had set up our game (which took some time) our game finally got underway. I rolled first and rolled an 11 and bought Pall Mall. Back then I wasn't very wise and my strategy was just to buy everything I landed on and hope the money starts rolling in. My Grandad was playing a very different kind of game to me he was only buying the good properties like Leciester Square and saving lots of money.  After about 2 hours the game started going to plan for me and grandad started paying up and before you knew it my grandad went broke by landing on my Northumberland Avenue hotel and having to pay £750.

After that my Grandad and I shook hands and said "good game" to each other. Now whenever I'm at a sleepover at my grandparents I never forget to get the monopoly out and start playing.

Fiji

Fiji -Malolo Island

Our family rolled off the boat onto Malolo island and we were blasted with the singing and the high fives from the Fijian staff. As our family walked over the jetty to find our room after all the singing I knew it was going to be a great holiday. As part of this blog post I am going to talk about three of my favourite things I did on my holiday.

Snorkelling

Snorkelling was very fun at Fiji and I also got to snorkel in two different places one place was near the jetty at Malolo and the other one was at a sandbar a couple of Km from Malolo and we had to take the boat to get there. The snorkelling at Malolo didn't have as nice fish as the sandbar but it still had a whole school of grey fish which I really enjoyed swimming with. My favourite was the one I saw at the sandbar which were clown fishes which is what Nemo is. The coral I mostly enjoyed seeing was brain coral because it looked so much like a brain and it came in many different colours. Snorkelling was probably the funnest thing I did at Malolo.

Kayaking

Kayaking was fun and quite challenging because I hadn't done much of it before. At Malolo I went kayaking every day. When we went kayaking we would always travel to the same two places stinky Island and a mini sandbar and they were both very close to each other. The time I found hardest was the second time I went kayaking because the first time my dad was doubles partners with me and he would do most of the work. But the second time I was on my own in a single kayak and I had to do all the work. Kayaking was quite hard and I got a lot better at it since the start of the holiday.

Table Tennis and friends

Table Tennis at Malolo was a really big hit. I got to play against the staff, my friends and sometimes my siblings. The place where the table tennis was found was in the teenage room where there was also a TV and some bean bags. I also made lots of friends while I was playing table tennis there names were kip, Cullum, Fin, Duke and Christian. I also played in a tournament and I got third. By the end of my holiday I was heaps better at table tennis than at the start of my holiday

So those were my favourite things I did on my holiday and I'm missing the place already.

Nairnville sessions

Nairnville sessions

Hello everybody who reads my blog . This blog post is about Nairnville sessions which our class  attends every Thursday morning . At Nairnville we do different sports activities every week including Gymnastics, Rippa Rugby, Soccer and much more our class hasn't discovered yet. The things I have enjoyed the most at Nairnville is when I score a goal in soccer or score a try in Rugby. Some of the skills I have learnt at Nairnville are learning how to do a cartwheel and a backwards roll. I also think that Gymnastics helps to build your muscle strength to help you for other sports. I think at Nairnville I have been trying my hardest and pushing myself in the sports we do. A way I could get more out of these sessions is to talk tactics with my teammates before we start playing the sport against different teams. I reckon that they should hire the turf for the sports we play at Nairnville instead of doing it inside the gym .

German

German

Guten Morgen

That's good morning in German.  This year room 8 has been learning German in class and it has been very interesting and fun. I have learnt many words in German such as goodbye, hello, numbers 1-10 and of course much much more. My favourite part about German is watching the videos that have people who talk German in them, which are just more than 5 minutes long. I think that I will do German or French at college depending on what is on offer. The way German could help me in the future is by helping me communicate with other people in Germany if I decide to go there, or Germans I may meet on my travels. Surprisingly German has turned out better than I expected.

Auf Wiedersehen

( That's the formal way of saying goodbye in German)

School values

School values

Hi fellows welcome back to James's blog this week I am going to be talking about the school value that I have demonstrated this week. The value I think I have achieved this week is the value creativity. The way I have demonstrated the value is by doing a creative story for one of our tasks this story is about my friends and I getting lost in a cave but the way we find the treasure that is  in the cave is by getting amazing apps on my friends Ipod to get over the spikes and to defeat the dragon. The value that I find the easiest to do is creativity because it is fun and not that hard to do. The one that i find the hardest is perseverance because you can't give up on yourself when times are hard and you sometimes have to go through a lot of pain. I quite like the school values being at our school and I don't think they should be changed.

Striker Boy

Striker Boy

Hi everybody who bothers to read my blog this week I am going to be talking about a book I have just finished reading . I really enjoyed the book and I am going to tell you a bit about it.

This book is about a 13 year old boy called Nat. Nat is a boy who loves football and supports a team called the Hatton Rangers. Nat had lived in many countries ever since his mum died when he was six. After coming back to England he got spotted by a scout from Hatton Rangers football club when he was playing with a group of kids . The trial went well and he got 1 assist and an amazing goal. He was picked for the Hatton Rangers squad to try and help them from getting relegated even though he was only 13. Since he was only 13 he wasn't allowed to play in the premier league so his manager had to sign his age as 16 years old. He trained hard and got a spot in the team for the last game which they had to win or they would be relegated. Did he win the game for  Hatton Rangers? Read the book and find out.

The thing I most liked about the book was the football that Nat played and when he got picked to play the last game. I would reccomend this book to all football fans who enjoy playing and watching the game.

Galapagos Islands reflection

Galapagos Islands reflection

Hi everybody who reads my blog this week I am going to talk about our Galapagos Islands topic! In the Galapagos Islands topic I have learnt heaps of things such as-
  • The Galapagos Islands is a group of sixteen islands and they are all different sizes and ages.
  • The Galapagos Islands moves 3 cm east every year.
  • The most famous animal on the Galapagos Islands is the Galapagos Tortoise.
  • The first person to discover the Galapagos Islands was Tomas de Berlanga who was from Spain and was born in 1487.
  • There are four currents that flow to the Galapagos Islands they  are the Humboldt current, Panama current, South Equatorial current and the Cromwell current. They all affect the weather on the Islands.
  • Lava Lizards communicate by doing press ups.
  • The Galapagos Penguin is the shortest Penguin in the world being only 49 cm tall.
  • Most of the animals on the Galapagos Island have arrived there from other continents by doing things such as ballooning and flowing on a water current.
  • They have all adapted in different ways for example the Galapagos Penguin grew shorter because it helped it to stay cooler in the warm heat.
  • And much much more
I don't think we need to learn anything else about the Galapagos Islands and have covered enough about the topic. For next terms topic I would like to learn about space or about the Fifa Under 20 World Cup. I have actually really enjoyed learning about the Galapagos Islands and about all the amazing animals that have adapted there.

My Roles and Responsibilities

My Roles and Responsibilities

Hi everybody who reads my blog this week I am going to be talking about the two responsibilities I have they are first aid and house captain. The first one I will tell you about is being a house captain.

The way I  have  helped people this year while being a house captain is by organising the house points and helping people to have fun at the house cricket. You also run the house meetings with the other house captain. The thing I have most enjoyed about being a house captain is  umpiring at the house cricket. I also like reading out how many house points each house gets every week at assembly. The thing that is  most challenging about being a house captain is organising the big events like the house cricket and the mission fair. I really enjoy being a house captain and I don't think there should be any changes to the house captain role.

The second role I have is being a first aid monitor. When your a first aid monitor you go down to the first aid room after the bells gone and you eat your lunch or morning tea. During first aid all you do is talk and occasionally someone gets hurt and comes to the first aid room. Then me and Sam will give her a plaster or whatever they need to feel better. The way I help people during this role is making people feel better when they get sick or hurt. The things I have enjoyed about this role is everything I like talking Sam and I have liked helping people out when they get hurt. The thing I have learnt about this role is that heaps more girls get hurt than boys. I think that their shouldn't be any changes to this role.

This year I have loved having these roles in the school because you know that everything your doing is very sensible and helpful to the school.

ASB financial literacy guy

ASB financial literacy guy

Hi everybody who reads my on blog on Wednesday the ASB guy came and his name was Vane . First of all he did this test to see if we were good with money or not and he found out I was terrible with money. Then he said that the test was fake and that we could all be good with money (I was relieved). The second thing he talked to us about was how to make money around the house by cleaning the car, vacuuming the house and washing the windows and doing stuff like that. Then he said if your parents don't let you earn money by doing jobs around the house  you could ask your neighbours to mow their lawns, walk their dog and water their plants while they're on holiday. The last thing he said you could do to earn money was to do  lemonade stands, bake cookies and other stuff like that. After that he got us do a six minute challenge where you had to come up with some stall or business in 6 minutes which you did in groups . I was with Haveesha and we came up with hover boards that we would make and then sell online(his uncle taught him to make them). Then after that the lesson was almost over except the last thing he talked to us about was about getting a bank account and what PINs are. After that the lesson was finished and Vane said goodbye and then left. I think the lesson was very worthwhile and I learnt a lot of things about money and I think I manage my money quite well by just saving it in my bank account. But I think I should do some more jobs around the house so I can have more money . I think that the biggest key to the lesson was trying to get us to make more money by doing more chores.

Mission fair

Mission fair

On Friday last week during the middle block .We had the mission fair and our group was called The cricket Arena it was with Me ,Haveesha DJ and Lawrence. In our stall we had three cricket activities Get the pro batsman out, Throw the ball at the wickets and Hit boundaries. The mission fair started at 11.15. The price of our stall was $3.00 to do all the activities and if you only wanted to do one it would be $1.50. At the start not many people were coming and then after about 10 or 15 minutes we started to get bored because noone was coming and then a group of boys showed up and my sister. That was when our business got underway and from then on we had heaps of customers. In the activity Get the pro batsmen out me and DJ were the two batsmen and the kid would pay us their money and they could get to bowl 4 bowls at me or  DJ depending on if he was sorting a customer or I was sorting a customer. Another activity was there was three stumps and the person would try and throw a ball at all the stumps they would get three gos at throwing it at them and then you would have to move on to the next activity. The last activity was Hitting the ball past the Boundaries where we would put the ball on a cone and they would try and it it between 3 sets of cones. If they could hit the ball in between the boundaries or get the best batsmen out or hit the ball at the stumps the kids won lots of  lollies. We did the activities for over an hour and raised well over fifty dollars and we were really happy.I thought our stall was really good.

Anzac day commemorations

Anzac day commemorations

I have really enjoyed learning about the Anzacs at Gallipoli when they fought 100 years ago. I have learnt a lot of stuff and actually got interested in the war unlike last year when I wasn't into it at all. I learnt that -
  • 5% of NZ population's at the time got killed in War.
  • Their biggest fight was at Gallipoli with the British soldiers when they were trying to knock Turkey out of the war.
  • That the soldiers did lots of smoking back then which I find hard to believe.
  • Apparently Winston Churchill got blamed for ruining the Gallipoli campaign but it was really the hills and the land that won Turkey the battle.
  • Germany took on the world in the war but lost.
  • And much much more.
On Anzac Day I did attend 2 things: the wreath laying ceremony which was at about 9.00am so I didn't have to get up at 4 in the morning to go to the dawn service. I found the ceremony pretty good. The thing that we got to witness was two people  from every school who had made a wreath took their wreath up to the stage/ building and there were also heaps of trumpets and Anzac music too. My other thing that I went to was the light swith my cousins near the Arras tunnel which started from 7 in the night till 10 but it was just one clip kind of thing  that went for 15 minutes and kept playing over and over again. I thought it was fun showing lots of pictures and sometimes clips but my brother was disappointed because he thought it was going to be a movie with popcorn and lemonade.

I enjoyed Anzac Day and I think it is a great idea to remember our soldiers who fought for us in World War One.
